A happy camper with his first fish of the day.
Ty and I were able to sneak out for a couple hours Sunday afternoon for a bit of ice fishing on a local lake. I had a new auger I needed to break in and we were out of fish from our last trip. The fish didn’t cooperate to well, but we had a blast with Ty even pulling a few through the ice without any help from me.

Check out Empire Canvas Works and their Boreal Shirt. It is becoming my most important piece of winter equipment.

Ice Fishing to start 2011
With Jake at the ATA show, I figured I better get out and make something happen for the first full weekend of 2011. We have an annual ice fishing trip we do this time every year with Back 40′s own Kevin Biermeier, my Dad, my Father-in-Law, and a couple of my Dad’s buddies.
We did really well despite the cold weather, with a full limit of panfish (to include some really big bluegills and crappies). We fish almost exclusively with spikes and waxies. Vexilars, under-water cameras, propane heaters and portable ice fishing shacks make a full day on the ice at even bone crunching temps enjoyable!
Here’s to a few upcoming fish fries! Can’t wait to get back out on the ice.
